6.2 - Final Rationale

The Topic for my brochure was gift giving. Specifically, the brochure was made to provide people with three recommendations for shops in which to buy products considered not so well-known and those that avoid being from the major stores or simply mass produced. The title of my brochure is therefore ‘Unique and Unbeknown’.

All of my locations were selected because of their authentic, unpretentious and humble brand image. The shops emotive qualities as mentioned are brought forward through an organised and yet detailed styled brochure. Visual techniques, such as a consistently used grid system help bring forth a sense of order, meanwhile the use of scale and pops of colour enabled my illustrations to display the creativity and originality present at all my chosen locations.

Looking at my design process, I am happy with my end result as once professionally printed, the spreads all cohesively relate to one another. I am pleased with my digital workbook shown on my blog as I was able frequently document the development process of my brochure. I also feel as though I have developed my own stylistic approach in that I now have a greater interest in creating illustrations that combine a sense of both a cartoon-like aesthetic as well as realistic elements and techniques.
