With all of our visuals, we aim to give it some sort of branded presence. What I mean by this, is that the colour schemes and visuals are cohesive across the poster, website, and third medium. To make this happen we have decided to come up with an icon or character. This is similar to the brand of 'Where's Waldo' and the fact that he is so distinct no matter the how much details his icon may have e.g. a man with a stick and red and white t-shirt is distinctively recognizable as Waldo. Isolating 'Where's Waldo' as an artist/brand model also saw us recognize the way that in much of the visuals he is only part of the scene and does not overcrowd it. Instead, his character and the environment/scene work hand in hand.
Our idea follows a similar idea to 'Where's Waldo' however instead looks at using a Llama as our 'mascot'. This decision was inspired by our direction to make this event revolve around an outdoor music gig/concert. Featuring acts like Tash Sultana, we were influenced by her ambiguous and free persona - one that we found featured in the personality of a llama. What we hope to achieve from this direction is a character that portrays the concert's musical genre, outdoor enthusiasm and relaxed 'vibe'. Searching up llama on google images gave us a perfect template to work off...
Left: The look of a llama was a huge factor in its selection as our brand's mascot. Their often wild hair like the one shown here can be easily molded to suit our music's genre. For example, one idea is to essentially redraw this image in a vector/illustrative style, however, give it reggae-inspired hair (dreadlocks or braids). This wacky hair could then be a great element to play with for our third medium. As of this moment, we have the idea to create a short animation that would play to the beat of a song and upon each 'bass drop', the animation would go 'wild'. Below is an example of this: (Skip to 0.52seconds)
Using this as an influence, our aim is to play on this idea of dramatic movement and to use the llama's wild braided hair to do the same abrupt and free flowing movements. This would be both fun and engaging to the viewer and could also be used on short promotional videos for the festival/concert.
